Seeking educator with training/experience in literacy development/remedial literacy

Position Overview, Roles & Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Executive Director, working closely with colleagues and community partners, and applying good practice principles, the instructor is responsible for the effective delivery of the Adult Learning Program curricula and for the evaluation and documentation of progress of learners.

Specifically, the Instructor will:

• Design and deliver classroom, small-group, one-to-one and online learning content as assigned using lesson plans, discussions, printed materials, audio-visual presentations, field trips and hands-on projects. Learning materials and lessons are designed to enable learners to meet the outcomes of the Adult Learning Program curricula and build their essential/employability skills.
• Prepare learning plans for each learner, using his/her life experiences as materials for learning; accommodating different learning styles.
• Assess learners and track their progress on an ongoing basis using a variety of assessment tools and strategies.
• Maintain and update confidential classroom learner documents and ensure that they remain confidential.
• Support learner intake, assessment, registration, placement and orientation.
• Provide volunteers under her supervision with meaningful opportunities to contribute to the goals and objectives of DLN, clear expectations and guidance, and ongoing feedback and support.
• Make referrals to appropriate NSSAL service providers and community agencies.
• Ensure classroom spaces are clean and safe for volunteers and learners.Seeking educator with training/experience in literacy development/remedial literacy. Training/experience in the Orton Gillingham method of literacy instruction and online learning is considered an asset.

28-30 hours per week - Monday - Thursday

January - June, possibility of extension

Salary Range: $25.64 - 30.00 per hour based on experience
