Bob: Learning Through Helping Others

Tutor-Bob-PaceyA lot of people believe that you need to be an expert or highly skilled in a subject if you are going to become a tutor.  What we've found is that while expertise is nice, a good comfort level in a particular subject is all that is needed. Being resourceful and willing to learn are much more valuable attributes in a tutor. Bob is a great example of this. A volunteer in our computer programs, Bob loves when learners come to him with a question that he can't immediately answer. As they sit and problem solve together they both learn from the experience.

Passionate lifelong learners like Bob make the best volunteer tutors and mentors for our learners. We are so lucky to have him and many others like him as part of our learning family!

Thanks to former staff member Tyler Colbourne who created our volunteer video series.
